My main motivation for posting these new songs is to get it to my band so that we can all get ready to start gigging. An old friend moved back to town named Terry Horton who is an incredible drummer and I have to get him up to speed on all of my original music (fyi, these three songs are definitely not all of my music, but it is a start). My friend Kaymen will also be joining us on bass and whatever else he feels is appropriate for each song. It is great to have a good multi-instrumentalist in the band! And of course, Rhiannon will still be singing with me, as well as writing some of the music. Let me know what you think of the music!

This song is titled I Hate My Job and just to be clear, I wrote this song 2 jobs ago, I don’t actually hate this job. I am rather delighted to even have a job in this economy. My motivation for writing this was that I didn’t enjoy my job which took up most of my time, and I felt like there had to be something else for me, because this definitely wasn’t for me. I play the guitar, djembe, and lead vocals. Rhiannon is singing harmony, and Kaymen layed down the bass track.

Click here to download the song. Let me know what you think!

Hello and thanks for checking out the Sounds Like life blog. My intention for this is to provide updates on what we are working on and what we have coming up. So I’ll start with the present!

It’s Tuesday January 20th, and Rhiannon and I plan to spend some timen in the studio this evening. Last night I layed down the preliminary tracks for my newest song titled Home. Rhiannon hasn’t had alot of time to listen to this one and work up a second part, so I plan to work on that some tonight.

We are almost finished with a song I wrote called I Hate my Job. I wrote this two jobs ago, so I shouldn’t get in trouble if my boss ever hears about it. I am sure I’ll have to explain that to him though. All the track are there, I just haven’t got the mix the way I want it yet. I thought I had it, but when I played it through my Apple TV, I had some sibilance that was unacceptable. I may end up re-doing some of the tracks but I hope I don’t have to.

Rhiannon wrote a great new song that is still in the works. I have not played it enough to be comfortable with it, but I think it will sound great once all is worked out. The title is still up in the air, but I’m sure she’ll come up with something soon if she hasn’t already.

My plan thus far is to keep writing new stuff as often as I am inspired to do so, record an EP (about 5 songs), use that as a demo to get some local gigs, and eventually make enough money from CD sales, gigs, and tips to buy a new guitar! I will probably put all money I make from my musical endeavors right back into it. I am talking about musical instruments, sound equipment, microphones, etc. I work a regular job to pay the bills, but I want to do more with music and make my hobby support itself. Who knows, maybe I’ll end up doing it full time. I don’t see that coming up soon, but I can’t give up on my dreams!
